Our Story
A few words to get to know the history of the house and its owners…
Once upon a time in Karavostasi...
"Siklos" is a restored building from the early twentieth century
in Karavostasi, Oitylo, Mani, in a picturesque sheltered harbour, once a base or refuge for pirates. It is believed to have been built in 1920, with the ground floor first and shortly after, the upper part which today houses the suite.
The current owners, a couple of doctors, acquired the property in 2018. The construction is entirely stone, and this was preserved during the restoration, which was carried out with respect for tradition. As one of the owners originates from Homeric Oitylo, the name could only have been inspired by her childhood memories, when she spent her holidays with her grandparents in the village of Oitylo.
Thus, the siklos, also called synglos or siglos — meaning the bucket used to draw water from cisterns or wells in Maniot homes — gave its name to today’s Siklos.
Here, there is a blend of simplicity and tranquility, both characteristic of the historic Mani region. Our motto comes from the Odes Pythian by Pindar: “Oh my soul do not aspire to eternal life, but exhaust the limits of the possible.”
